Course: Case Studies in Primary Health Care
This course culminates in a referenced 10-page paper that focuses on student analysis and evaluation skills surrounding a chosen case study. Students are expected to identify (and justify) their choice of one or two main issues or questions highlighted by particular lectures and demonstrated in one or more of the case studies. Students may, after discussion with faculty, use a case from their own experience. The analysis should demonstrate relevant insights and judgments about what happened. Students should concisely examine - with focused brevity - better ways of handling problems that arose. Students might consider the following:1. The potential for scaling-up, sustainability, and the three-way partnership
2. How impact could be measured for use by the community as well as scientific publication
3. The six criteria of SEED-SCALE Ethical issues related to community change
4. Are there gaps or inconsistencies between the perspectives of the three partners?
Students are expected to show that they have done more extensive reading than just the case study in the textbook. Extra credit for will be given extra credit for references that reflect intelligent understanding.

Papers should not exceed 10 typewritten pages for the main body of the paper. The following sections do not count against the 10-page limit:
1. Identification: on every page, students should include a header that includes their name and email address
2. List of references: students should use either APA or ICMJE format
3. Font: Times New Roman; Font size: the minimum font size is 12-point
4. Spacing: double spaced
5. Tables, graphs, and maps: if included, these must be labeled and numbered (according to the order of presentation on the main text); tables, graphs, and maps can be added only if they are essential to the argument being discussed
Quality of literature review: students are expected to use an adequate balance of articles in (peer-reviewed) scientific journals, books, and Internet sources. Particular attention wll be paid to the quality of the sources cited and to the limitations in the data presented. Students should not base their arguments on Internet sources exclusively.
Referencing format: proper referencing is essential. All quotes or paraphrasing of text must be quoted using quotation marks and acknowledging authorship. Students must follow a consistent format. Two commonly used referencing formats in public health and health allied sciences journals are:
1. American Psychological Association (APA)
2. International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)
In the case of references from the World Wide Web, students should follow the APA guidelines.
